Silver and Red Still Life

Silver and Red Still Life, by Bruce Hedges
Oil on Canvas 16 x 20 inches

I couldn't resist the beautiful red fruits, vegetables, and fabric -- and then the silver, with its complex reflections. This painting was done several years ago, at a time when I was doing a lot of painting every day. I had never heard of a blog.
One reason I like still lifes is that the artist can arrange shapes and colors to suit his design idea, rather than just painting whatever happens to be in front of him. (Yes, those are maraschino cherries.) I've always liked this painting.

Reflections are one of my favorite things. I love seeing buildings, plants, and especially Christmas lights reflected in ponds and lakes. I'm so happy to see the reflections in the silver tea pot. And I'm really clueless as to how you made them look so good. You truly are a wonderful talent.

The depth of the reflection and sheen of the pitcher; the shadown on the edge of the draped back cloth; the wood grain and accurately imperfect finish of the oak table; - all masterfully captured and combined into a visually stunning work. Bravo.

Bruce, this painting is marvelous. Did you know that paintings that are predominantly red have a higher auction value??? (Someone from Christie's once told me that.) Something to consider!
