Question: How many artists does it take to change a lightbulb?
Answer: Two. One to change the bulb, and one to say "I could do that!"
When I learned about the original daily painting blogger, Duane Keiser, I thought, "I could do that!" My thanks to Duane and the other leaders in the Painting-A-Day movement.

Head study -- 9 of 50
Oil on canvas. 6 X 8 in. Burnt umber & white. This is a gesture sketch, done in one hour. Pretty sketchy and loose, but good training. Especially for someone who tends to be a perfectionist.
To elaborate further, a gesture sketch is a quick sketch that captures the gesture, pose, attitude, movement, or flow of the subject. The idea is that, even if a the subject is resting quietly, she still has a gesture that gives a feeling of life. The terms are sometimes used to mean the same thing.
A "gesture sketch"?
ReplyDeleteAh, perfectionism... :) I think it's good though. And I like it. Hm, it makes me think of Miami.
Thanks for your comments, Kirstin. A "gesture sketch" is just another name for a "quick sketch".
ReplyDeleteAh, I see. :) Thanks.
